When the outdoors comes indoors.
On the scale of inconveniences, having a wild animal get into your house has to be up towards the very top. There’s nothing more frustrating – and sometimes destructive – than wildlife infiltrating the safety of a home. I’m speaking from experience in this department, since I’ve had both a snake and a possum sneak into my house.
This family had something a little bit more serious find its way into the Colorado home they were staying in: a big ol’ black bear. The video of their encounter has gone viral on TikTok, and the two different versions that have been posted (original audio and “Jet 2 Holiday” audio) have been viewed over 7 million times.
It appears that the bear snuck into the house at some point without them knowing, and the footage captures the family’s reaction in real time as they watch the sizable apex predator wandering around the Colorado home’s living room and kitchen.
At one point, you can hear one of the people off camera laughably say:
“I’m calling the cops.”
Animal control might have been the better option, but I’m sure the authorities were able to help if the family did end up calling. In the meantime, the phone video captured the hungry and highly intelligent bear raiding the fridge, standing up and looking over his options like a human looking for a midnight snack.
Shortly after that, the bear stood up on the sink and checked out the window that was right above it. It appears that the wild animal was looking for a way out, but that escape plan wasn’t going to cut it. So it jumped down and walked right over to the door that opens to the garage of the house. What happened next… you won’t expect.
The black bear stands up, reaches for the door handle, opens the door and then appears to give the people in the house a head nod before showing itself out. It’s truly one of the more insane bear encounter videos I’ve seen, and you’ll have to watch it for yourself to get the full effect:

So bears can just open doors now, eh? That’s terrifying.
Fortunately, it appears that the family was all okay after the close call. They probably just lost out on some groceries that were in the fridge (there’s no telling how much the bear got into). But what they gained is a viral video, and quite the story to tell for years to come.
Oh, and I should probably mention that the comments section of the post was the place to be:
“The bear opening doors like that’s his house.”
“Raiding the fridge like he pitched in on the trip.”
“God forbid a gentleman get a midnight snack.”
“Not sure why y’all trippin. That’s the most polite bear. Prolly looking for some porridge.”
“I think he has been there before.”
“Did the bear do a head nod on the way out?”
“THE WAY HE JUST OPENED THE GARAGE DOOR.”
Yeah, I still can’t get over how natural it was for the wild animal to open the garage door. If you are in bear country, maybe make sure to double check those deadbolt locks?
