WE DID IT!

In a wild revelation that may or may not prove that peer pressure works, Cracker Barrel has announced that they are scrapping their new logo and reverting back to the “Old Timer sitting next to Barrel” logo that has represented their brand for close to five decades.

If you think I’m joking about this, I completely understand your distrust. Don’t take it from me… take it from the official Cracker Barrel social media account:

“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain.

At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been – and always will be – about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family.  As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon.”

Sometimes in order to move forward, you have to go back.

You likely already know that people have been up in arms for days about the Cracker Barrel rebrand. The eatery announced last week that they were going with a new, minimalist logo, and the response was atrocious. The old logo that we’ve all come to know and love – featuring an old man sitting next to a barrel – was going to be replaced with a lifeless, sterile, pointless, boring new symbol.

Right after the logo change announcement was made, Cracker Barrel’s stock saw a nasty 14% drop, something to the tune of $100 million in value. It’s since recovered a bit (buy the dip, right?), but still has a 5% drop over the past five days. On the year however, Cracker Barrel is up a whopping 38%, and it’ll soar even higher after this news hits the internet.

Even the President of the United States gave his two cents on the matter, calling for the Tennessee-based restaurant to go back on their changes and they’d have “a billion dollars worth of free publicity.” Well, it certainly seems like Cracker Barrel might have listened to the POTUS, because sure enough, they’re going back to how things used to be:

Hallelujah.

In a way, it’s hard to believe that Cracker Barrel punted on the new logo… but I, and many others, are very happy that they did so. The restaurant chain confirmed they were reverting things back to the “Old Timer” look and reiterated the message in their social media post with this statement to FOX Business:

“We thank your guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain.”

Translation: Uncle Hershel is here to stay, and Cracker Barrel just made one of the smartest business decisions in the history of the world. Props to them for listening to the people and bringing back the old logo… now we just have to get them to ditch the farmhouse interior redesign that’s happening with all of their locations.
