Was American Tennis Pro, Amanda Anisimova, Drinking Beer During A Match At The Cincinnati Open?

Amanda A Tennis

America might have just found their new favorite tennis player if Amanda Anisimova really was drinking a beer on the job.

We’re currently in the dog days of the sports calendar, and with nothing really on but baseball and WNBA (which is a mess right now), the social media world is turning their attention to tennis. Specifically, a match between American tennis pro Amanda Anisimova and Filipino star Alex Eala that happened earlier this week at the Cincinnati Open.

During the second set of a match that eventually went in favor of Anisimova, the American tennis player sat down on her bench and pulled out an amber-colored beverage. The drink in a clear cup definitely looked like a beer, and it led the commentators of the Tennis Channel to speculate about what the liquid could be.

One of the first guesses was… apple cider. Because that’s what the top athletes in the world all drink, right? The other broadcaster was a bit more bold with his guess, and suggested that Anisimova may have been sipping on a beer while saying that he wasn’t suggesting that:

“I mean, I would never suggest that a player was drinking a beer in the middle of a match, but…”

The broadcast even got the “What’s Amanda Drinking?” graphic ready to go in the top left corner. Good work by them.

That video right there started a dialogue online. A number of people online guessed that it might have been a Red Bull, or a ginger ale that the tennis star was downing during competition. Others chose to not question their eyes, and in the spirit of fun, just rolled with the idea that Anisimova was throwing back a beer while on her way to a Round of 32 victory.

Those type of people left comments like these:

Yeah, I’m definitely in favor of the best athletes in the world downing beers during competition.

But unfortunately, that’s not what was happening. It was later confirmed in the broadcast that Amanda Anisimova was drinking a Red Bull energy drink, and had just chosen to pour it out into a cup. Considering most Red Bull drinkers sip it right out of the can, I guess not a lot of people knew that the beverage shares a lot of similarities – hue and foam wise – to that of a freshly poured pilsner.

Buy hey, no free ads…. Red Bull has gotta pay if they want Amanda drinking out of the can.
