There’s new music out from Kolton Moore & the Clever Few, and you do not want to miss it.
A thoughtful ode to Moore’s daughter that urges the listener to make the most of the moment, the band’s latest single is especially going to strike a chord with parents of young children, but the underlying message is one that will resonated with all listeners.
Titled “Strawberry Thief,” the tune finds Moore appreciating some of the little moments he shares with his young daughter and lamenting the fact that it won’t always be this way as one day she’ll grow up and get married. Nevertheless, Moore promises to make the most of the present and knows he will always have these special memories to hold onto.
Moore provided some additional context to set the scene for “Strawberry Thief,” and what exactly it means to him:
“This one is close to home, probably my favorite song on the record. For me, the line that says it all is, ‘Butterflies and dandelions / A little strawberry thief,’ about my daughter always getting to the ripe strawberries in the garden before me or my wife can make it to them. It’s about me coming to the realization that memories like that won’t ever be recreated, they’ll always just be memories.”
With the release of an accompanying music video alongside the single, Moore does an incredible job of depicting the memories with his family that inspired this song and brings his lyricism to life in a nostalgia-inducing manner.
Moore provided some commentary on the music video as well:
“I knew this video would be an emotional experience, but as we shot the video and I kept seeing the clips of our little girl growing up – all the emotions of the song really came flooding in. The idea for the home video projector look came from my wife. I was kind of at a loss as to how we could visually capture this song and it make sense to everyone.
The projector depicts how the memories look like in my head. Our evening fishing trips, swimming in the summer sun, making funny faces with mommy, eating all the strawberries out of the garden before we even make it inside… this is what ‘Strawberry Thief’ is to me.”

A touching ode to Moore’s daughter with an important message, “Strawberry Thief” marks a strong follow up to the band’s previous single “When We Were Young,” which they released back in June as the lead single off of the band’s forthcoming record. Titled A Place That I Call Home, Kolton Moore & the Clever Few’s next project features 20 tracks and is due for release in its entirety on September 26.
Produced by Matt Ross-Spang, who has worked with the likes of Jason Isbell and Margo Price, A Place that I Call Home is deeply personal project in which Moore dives into the good, the bad, and the ugly of his life and career as a touring musician, and considers the things and people that have kept him grounded every step along the way.
