Kaitlin Butts Read Fan-Submitted Confessions Ahead Of “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” & They Did Not Hold Back

MORE OF THIS.

Kaitlin Butts, I am formally requesting that you keep this segment alive. “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” is having quite the viral moment on social media, with fans outside of country music positively responding to the witty lyrics of Katilin Butts. The song is found on Butts’ record Roadrunner!, which reimagines the music from the famed play Oklahoma!. The single not only has a viral moment on social media, but it has also put Kaitlin Butts on the charts, which has been a long time coming.

Reflecting on the viral hit, Butts shared with Variety that she’s honored that this song is having a moment, and she’s thrilled that a traditional country song is capturing the attention of so many.

“No one gets to really choose their viral moment, if you get one. So I’m really proud that this is the song that the algorithm chose and that my friends chose to help lift up, and that it’s a more traditional country song. I listen to all kinds of music, but that’s what I grew up listening to, and I feel glad that it’s this song. It’s got the Southern charm, but it is standing up to toxic people, with a good message to it. And it’s got fiddle on it. They’re playing fiddle on country radio!”

Celebrities like Bravo star Bethany Frankel have used the sound, along with Ella Langley, which fueled the love triangle rumors between her, Riley Green, and Megan Moroney. She was in her kitchen, literally stirring a pot with some sauce, while mouthing the words with a whole lot of sass… keep in mind, this was at the height of all the rumors about her, Megan and Riley:

People are using the song in many ways, including airing some of the dirty laundry of those who have wronged them. Fans will comment wild stories in Butts’ comments section, and Butts has made some response videos to these tales, noting these folks are deserving of being dead to them.

Now Butts had decided to incorporate this storytelling into her live shows, starting a segment before performing the song where she reads off some fan-submitted comments. After she reads each of the comments, she then tells the crowd to repeat back part of the lyrics to her.

At a recent show, she starts the confessions hot by reading:

“He cheated on me with a 19-year-old from a gas station.”

Lord… She then gives fans instructions on what to say after each piece of paper is read.

“Everybody say it with me! ‘RIP. Dead to me.’ You get the point? Let’s keep going.”

It appears that for the other submissions, fans wrote the name of the person who was dead to them, and then the reasoning why this person should be exiled from their life.

And boy, Kaitlin Butts fans did not hold back when it came to airing out the dirty laundry of those who have done them wrong. The readings included:

“Emma: left me for her co-worker on Christmas day.”

“Nick: used my car everywhere, was a slob, and wanted a mommy and not a wife.”

“Jason: He robbed and killed my grandma.”

HOLY. That last one, rightfully so, had the crowd gasping in shock.

This is messy, and I love it. Please keep this part of the show going forever. And to the fans who shared these confessions — I am so sorry that someone wronged you like this and you had to heal from that hurt — but, oh, boy, is this entertaining.
