Maybe don’t schedule any shows in Indiana until they find the right guy.
It sounds like country singer Jordan Davis had an interesting experience while trying to get to Canada recently – all thanks to a guy in Indiana who’s facing some serious charges, and happens to have the same name.
The “Buy Dirt” singer played at the WYRK Taste of Country festival in Buffalo, New York on Friday, June 26 before heading to Ontario for a show at Caesars Windsor on Saturday. But as Davis explained in a video posted to Instagram, he almost didn’t make it to the show after being stopped by Border Patrol while trying to enter Canada:
“Dude, the two cops came up here, pulled me into the Border Patrol, and they’re like, ‘I need you to be real serious with me, man. Are you in some trouble in Indiana?’ And I was like, ‘No, I’ve never even been arrested, dude.'”
Davis admits that at first he thought it was a joke, and that they were just messing with him because he’s a celebrity, but that he quickly realized that he wasn’t being pranked and that the officers were serious:
“And he was like, ‘You gotta come with me because we’re not going to put you in handcuffs, but just walk with me.’ And that’s when I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I was like, ‘Oh dang.’ And then I just kind of got quiet because they were pretty serious.”
As it turns out, there’s a guy in Indiana named Jordan Davis with criminal charges, and that apparently got the country singer flagged in Border Patrol’s system.
Davis made clear that he wasn’t upset about the situation, and that they were just doing their jobs, but apparently the officers were worried that the country singer would use his platform to trash talk them for detaining him:
“Now the guy just came out, he was like, ‘Are you the country singer?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘Oh dude, now you’re going to go back and bash us.’ I was like, ‘Nah, all good, dude, just let me get out of here.'”
Luckily he made it to his show in Canada, but if your name is Jordan Davis and you might have a warrant in Indiana, you might wanna cancel any trips across the border that you had planned.
Of course Davis isn’t the only artist who’s had trouble crossing the border between the United States and Canada: Last year around this time, Cody Jinks was forced to cancel his concerts in Canada when his production trucks were turned back at the border. The singer shared at the time:
“While attempting to cross the border into Canada, my production trucks were forced to turn around and head back to the United States by the Canada Border Services Agency. Getting them into Canada was made a logistic impossibility despite following all the prescribed procedures given to us.
I had to make the difficult decision to cancel the shows on July 4th and 5th. It is incredibly important to me that everyone who spends their hard-earned money to see a show gets the absolute best experience possible, and right now, that standard just can’t be met without my trucks. It kills me to have to do this because putting on these shows for you guys has always been the greatest joy of my career, but unfortunately, my hands are tied.”
Guess they’re not messing around up there in the 51st state. (It’s a joke, relax).
