Colorado Man Opens His Truck Door & Is Shocked To Find A Black Bear Casually Sitting Shotgun

Did this black bear call shotgun? Or what?

A Colorado man almost literally jumped out of his shoes when he went to get into his truck and came face to face with a small black bear. While he had been away from his vehicle, the wild animal had climbed in and evidently made itself comfortable. It’s unclear how it got inside, but chances are it crawled in through an open window of the truck.

Bears tend to be pretty nosy creatures, and though they have been known to get violent when provoked (or if their cubs are messed with), they’re usually just trying to do regular, bear activities… and they often have fun while they are at it. Sometimes that means getting into a little trouble, in most cases because they are searching for food.

That’s what I’m assuming happened here, only because that’s pretty much how all of these instances go. Person leaves food in car, bear smells food from wherever it is, tracks it down with its sniffer, and then climbs into the vehicle in order to find it. That $3 cinnamon bun can turn into a big-time auto bill if you leave it in your vehicle amidst bear country.

When this man opened up his passenger side door, he was likely just getting something out before he hit the road. Little did he know, the black bear had made its way inside, and it made for a hilarious and scary surprise that was caught on a security camera.

As soon as the Colorado man realized what he was looking at, he backed away quickly… and then reached for his phone to take a picture. While the guy snapped a couple of photos and videos, the black bear cub stayed put, even though it could have easily ran off with the side door now ajar.

At one point it even lunged at the guy, which sent him falling backwards and onto his derrière.

It actually took the man grabbing a wooden plank and hitting it against the truck – and jabbing at the bear when he was close enough – to get the wild animal to abandon the vehicle and retreat back to where it had came. Once the young black bear did exit the truck, the man chased it a bit farther, just for good measure.

I’ll bet he makes sure he keeps his windows up and his doors locked from here on out:

“One Colorado man was in for a bear-y shocking surprise when he found a bear in the front seat of his truck staring back at him. The man was immediately spooked, and opens another door of the truck before chasing the bear away with a wooden plank.”

I’m always here for a good pun… nice use of “bear-y” there.

Social media users that stumbled across the viral video were a) making observations and b) cracking jokes in the comment section of the post:

“He took that photo because no one at work was going to believe why he was late to the job site.”

“I would’ve closed that door right back up.”

“Just needed a ride.”

“It’s a lil cub and he’s acting like that?”

“How the the hell did the bear get in there without the man even noticing that the bear got in there?”

“Headline could be, ‘Colorado bear startled by man opening his truck.'”

I suppose that’s true.
