Okay, that’s pretty funny…
Of course, Morgan Wallen is gearing up for a huge album release this coming Friday, but outside of music, he’s had a pretty wild year or so… of course, we all know about Morgan’s infamous “chair” incident that occurred at Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar Chief’s in 2024, where he was arrested and charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct after throwing a chair off the roof of the building. He pled guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in Davidson County court in December of last year, bringing to an end a legal saga that started in April of last year.
The chair reportedly landed near two Nashville police officers who were standing on the sidewalk below, and Morgan was pointed out by patrons on the rooftop as the one who threw it. It was then confirmed by surveillance video, and Judge Cynthia Chappell ultimately sentenced the singer to 11 months and 29 days in jail on each count, with all but seven days suspended. Those seven days are to be served in a DUI education center. The remainder of his sentence will be served on supervised probation, and will be served consecutively for a total of two years on probation.
The plea agreement is subject to judicial diversion, which means that Morgan will be able to petition the court to have his record expunged if he successfully completes probation.
Morgan is still currently on probation, and during an interview with former Barstool Sports personality Caleb Pressley for a Sundae Conversations episode, who interviews all kinds of celebrities and parodies traditional news media interviews with sarcastic questions and funny, out-of-the-box conversations, he joked about being allowed in his own bar.
Morgan opened Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen last June, and when Morgan first sat down, Caleb thanked him for having them there and asked if it was the first time he’d been there… Morgan said it was, and joked that he hoped hie didn’t “violate my probation by being here”:
“Since it’s opened, yeah. Hopefully I don’t violate my probation by being here.”
Caleb responded by asking Morgan if he was on probation right now, and Morgan joked:
“Shoutout to my PO.”
Of course, these jokes are only funny because no one got seriously hurt or worse from Morgan throwing that chair, which was obviously incredibly studied, but clearly he’s able to make light of it now.
On a recent appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Morgan said he’d been trying to stay out of bars, which has been the “best thing” for him at this point in his life:
“It’s definitely the best thing for me, you know. If you’re using the bar as a specific example, that’s definitely the best thing for me. I ain’t been in a bar since the last time I was in a bar that everybody knows about. The most public time I was in a bar, that’s the last time I was in a bar.”
Morgan’s 37-song I’m The Problem album is due out May 16th, and he’s mostly touring in North America this year, with one stop in London later this month.
You can watch the interview below, which also features Caleb’s co-host Glenny dressed up as Coach Bob Knight, who infamously tossed a chair across the basketball court and got ejected from the game, and makes it all so much funnier:
