Sounds like his bar days are over for now.
This week, Morgan Wallen is the guest on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, where they talk music and obviously made same jokes about Morgan’s infamous “chair” incident that occurred at Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar Chief’s last year, where he was arrested and charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct after throwing a chair off the roof of the building. He pled guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in Davidson County court in December of last year, bringing to an end a legal saga that started in April of 2024.
The chair reportedly landed near two Nashville police officers who were standing on the sidewalk below, and Morgan was pointed out by patrons on the rooftop as the one who threw it. It was then confirmed by surveillance video, and Judge Cynthia Chappell ultimately sentenced the singer to 11 months and 29 days in jail on each count, with all but seven days suspended. Those seven days are to be served in a DUI education center. The remainder of his sentence will be served on supervised probation, and will be served consecutively for a total of two years on probation.
The plea agreement is subject to judicial diversion, which means that Morgan will be able to petition the court to have his record expunged if he successfully completes probation.
And while Morgan has been making national headlines this week for a different controversy (for lack of a better word), last year it was all about “the chair,” and obviously with Morgan being the biggest act in country by a big margin, Theo made a comment about how you really can’t go anywhere without hearing his music. It’s in restaurants, stores and you even hear it driving around in people’s cars, and he asked Morgan if there are moments where “you become too much of you?”
Morgan admitted that it’s still “weird” to have the amount of fame that he does, but he’s been able to supplement it by finding other hobbies that doesn’t involve going out in public as much:
“It’s still weird, and there’s parts of that that I don’t like. I mean, I think anyone who was to deal with that, it’s not ideal… you know, it’s not ideal to go everywhere, and even if you don’t get bothered, you were on edge the whole time because you thought you might. It’s like, there’s just things that you don’t do. You just don’t do them anymore.
But that’s okay, that’s why I’ve taken up hunting so much, I think. Because I can go be with my buddies, I’m in the middle of nowhere, I can be at ease, I can not stress out. You just finds way to supplement it.”
Theo responded:
“It’s kind of funny, you can’t really go to a bar anymore because there would be too much hassle, and it’s probably the best thing for you.”
Morgan laughed and admitted that staying out of bars right now is “definitely” the best thing for him, specifically referencing the “most public” time he was in a bar, at Chief’s, was actually the last time he was in a bar:
“It’s definitely the best thing for me, you know. If you’re using the bar as a specific example, that’s definitely the best thing for me. I ain’t been in a bar since the last time I was in a bar that everybody knows about. The most public time I was in a bar, that’s the last time I was in a bar.”
And while that’s seemingly a great strategy for staying out of trouble, it seems to follow Morgan, and now he’s getting raked over the coals for walking out of SNL in the wrong way… I obviously think he’s made a ton of mistakes in the past, but sometimes the guy really can’t catch a break, so I think I’d stay in the woods too.
Morgan is gearing up to release his new I’m The Problem album on May 16th, and will head out on his headlining stadium tour this summer.
