The duet I’ve been waiting for.
Last night, Post Malone kicked off his Big Ass Stadium tour right up the road from his house in Salt Lake City, Utah, at Rice-Eccles Stadium. He will be joined by openers Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell on this leg of the massive tour, both of whom were featured on Post’s 2024 debut country album F-1 Trillion.
His duet with Sierra Ferrell, “Never Love You Again,” was my absolute favorite song on it by a mile. Written by Louis Bell, Ryan Vojtesak, Chris Tompkins and Rhett Akins, it was exactly what I was hoping for in terms of what Post Malone would sound like as a country artist, and turning it into a duet with Sierra just takes it to a whole other level.
Featuring heavy fiddle and woozy steel, Post laments a breakup and the aftermath of love lost, asking for forgiveness from this girl even though he knows he’s ultimately leaving and never looking back, because “this ain’t no cowboy Western.”
I’m obsessed with that line:
“Saw the Bible on the dresser
Save some forgiveness for me
Baby this ain’t no old cowboy Western
‘Cuz I won’t be looking back when I leave
It’s a long lost highway
And this road ain’t my friend
I’ll love you til tomorrow
And I’ll never love you again”
Their voices actually blend surprisingly well together, though up until yesterday, we hadn’t had the chance to hear them sing it together live, and it was certainly worth the wait. Post introduced Sierra to the Utah crowd by called her one of the “most talented people in the entire universe,” and I certainly must agree with him there:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I had the opportunity to bring one of the most beautiful women in the world, and one the most talented people in the entire universe. And we did a song together, maybe some of y’all saw her sing tonight, buy holy f***, she’s a star.
If I don’t f*** this up, this will go swimmingly. Miss Sierra Ferrell, ladies and gentlemen.”
While Post was heavily criticized over his recent Stagecoach performance, telling the crowd himself that he was “pitchy” and off-key at times, they both sounded flawless and delivered a beautiful rendition of their timeless duet with a simple acoustic guitar that still managed to fill the stadium. I really hope these two will put out some more music together, it’s magic:

Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re going to be anywhere near me on this tour, but I saw Post last summer live and it was one of my favorite concerts I went to last year. With Sierra being one of the openers, it’s surely a can’t-miss show and if they’ll be anywhere near you, I highly recommend seeing the show in person.
