The update that Landman fans have been waiting for… even though it doesn’t necessarily mean the hit Taylor Sheridan show will return to television screens anytime soon.
Everyone that loves Landman has been patiently (or not-so-patiently) waiting for the oil drama to come back. To be clear, there was never a concern about it not getting a third season. It’s just that after the Sheridan series was renewed for Season 3, not a lot has been announced in terms of… well, the show actually being in production.
For the show’s first two seasons, the Billy Bob Thornton-led show stuck to a very strict shooting and airing schedule. Actors, actresses and everyone in between would show up on set in the Spring, shoot 10 episodes, and then the series would be ready to go starting in the Fall.
It appeared that things were originally on schedule for that to happen again for Season 3, but we’ve slowly but surely found out that Landman has been hit with some delays (of which, we don’t know the exact reasoning). It was just last month that Jane Wiseman, the EVP and Head of Originals at Paramount+, spoke with Complex and said that Sheridan was currently writing Tulsa King and Landman.
This quote was published in late August, which means Landman was still actively being written just a couple of months ago:
“Between ‘Tulsa’ and ‘Landman,’ which Taylor is writing right now. ‘Frisco,’ ‘Dutton,’ ‘Madison,’ we have a lot of business, and we’re going to be in business for time to come.”
That was one of the many signs that told Landman fans not to expect Season 3 to air this Fall, as they had come to get used to with Seasons 1 and 2.
The one person behind the scenes that really deserves a lot of credit for keeping the Landman fanbase updated his actor James Jordan. He was the one that initially let the world know that the series was way behind its normal schedule, while also saying that he had seen some scripts that led him to believe that the upcoming season is “going to be amazing.”
In an interview with US Weekly, the actor behind Dale Bradley said that they’d all be returning to Fort Worth to start filming sometime in September. And thanks to a new post from Jordan, we found out that “sometime” happened to be late last week. Using hashtags like “Landman” and “Season 3,” the actor shared this photo of his trailer and this message:
“Up and runnin’ and back after it!”

So when should fans expect the show to return to their television screens? Shooting from late September through the beginning of the next year will likely lead to a mid-to-late 2027 release of Landman Season 3. With past seasons, they’ve shot for five or so months, and then usually take two to three months for post-production. If they wrapped in January at the earliest, Season 3 would probably premiere sometime around April or May.
Not exactly an exciting update… but at least the timeline has become more clear for the return of the fan-favorite series.
