Video Of Deion Sanders Talking About Who Shedeur Was “Allowed” To Play For Resurfaces In Wake Of NFL Draft: “I Know What’s Behind The Curtain”

So the Cleveland Browns were one of the Deion Sanders approved teams?

Alrighty then…

Of course, the story of this NFL Draft was about Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who just had his jersey retired by the Colorado program, waiting days for his name to be called in the 2025 draft. He ultimately went 144th overall to the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, so yeah… not sure if it was worth the wait, but compared to where he was projected to go before this weekend, it’s a steal for the Browns who are certainly in need of a talented quarterback. So much so, they drafted two…

Despite only leading the Buffaloes to a 13-11 record in his two seasons at the helm, many saw his skillset and potential to be very alluring for NFL teams in need of a quarterback and he was projected to go much, much higher. Many can only figure that part of the reason he fell so far probably had to do with the news that came out about his formal interviews ahead of the NFL Draft. According to one assistant coach, Sanders had what he calls “the worst formal interview” he’d ever seen in his life, and gave some other critical thoughts:

“He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. … But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”

Another anonymous exec from an AFC team also had some scathing criticism of the QB and his attitude:

“It didn’t go great in our interview. He wants to dictate what he’s going to do and what’s best for him. He makes you feel small.”

That news came out days before the first round of the NFL Draft, which signaled to many football experts and fans that Shedeur Sanders might not go during the first day of the draft. So Sanders – along with his family and friends – sat in his specially made draft room and watched as dozens of other players (and a plethora of other QBs) were taken before him.

Of course, it’s all speculation, but it does beg the question what really happened behind closed doors that caused his draft stock to drop so low? NFL teams absolutely want to win and will draft anyone they think can help them do that. They often look the other way on any number of off-the-field-issues if you can ball. Simple as that. We heard everything from racism to collusion over the past few days, but it’s obvious that there is something on tape or in the meetings that tanked his draft stock. Or maybe, he just isn’t “that guy,” like Mel Kiper and others thought.

Well, a video of an interview with his father, legendary NFL player Deion Sanders, has resurfaced on TikTok, and NFL fans think that might have something to do with it. A few months back, he appeared on The Tamron Hall show and discussed his son’s NFL future. Deion told her that there were “a couple teams” his son was not allowed to play for, citing the fact that he knows what’s “behind the curtain” in terms of the business side of the NFL, and he’s going to make sure his son doesn’t get screwed over on a bad franchise.

It’s obviously completely ridiculous for him to think that just because he’s an NFL legend that he’s going to waltz in and dictate terms to NFL teams on his son’s behalf, but the Sanders family aren’t exactly the most humble people…

“There are a couple teams that I won’t allow him to play for. This is my profession, I know what’s behind the curtain. We ain’t got to get back there for me to understand what’s not prominent for my son. I’m not doing it, ain’t no way in the world.”

Tamron asked what he would do if Shedeur didn’t listen and signed with a team his dad didn’t approve of, and here’s what he had to say:

“Who? No… you must mean owners, not my son.”

She followed up by asking if Deion had privately told his son who he would like for him to play for, and he doubled down on his first response:

“It’s not a ‘who’ I would like for him to play for, it’s a couple teams that I won’t allow him to play for.”

Yeah, I can’t imagine why NFL front office staff and owners wanted to steer clear of this whole situation… I actually do think Shedeur is talented, and obviously he has good genes, but this kind of stuff simply doesn’t fly at the professional level, and unfortunately, I think his dad is hurting him more than helping him with these kinds of public comments. But let’s be honest, if there was ever a team on the “NO list,” it would be the Cleveland Browns.

I totally understand he has experience in the NFL, and only wants what’s best for his child, but I think he took it too far. In fact, his younger son Shilo, who also participated in the draft his year, signed his own agent because it wasn’t “working out” with his dad. He ended up going undrafted…

If he’s smart, Shedeur will follow suit and do the same, because he’s gonna need all the help he can get playing for the Browns this year.
