The Atlanta Braves’ Victory Horn Broke At 1AM Last Night And Wouldn’t Stop Blaring

Braves

Blah, blah, blah, the Atlanta Braves hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning against my Philadelphia Phillies, blah, blah, blah…

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t stay up to watch the game last night. There was a nearly 3 hour rain delay that paused a 1-1 tie after six innings and the action didn’t restart until 11:30pm, which is way past my bedtime. Good thing I didn’t because if I was sleep deprived AND had to watch a domestic abuser (charges were dropped but… Marcell Ozuna did strangle his wife in front of police officers) hit a walk-off homer at 1 in the morning, phew buddy you would not want to be around me today.

But however disappointing it was to wake up and see these results, it was equally amusing to see (and hear) what happened to the city of Atlanta in the early morning hours.

Apparently the Braves have a tradition where they blow a train horn after every win and even though most of the city had been asleep for hours on this rainy Thursday night/Friday morning, the operators made the decision to let that sucker rip, alerting the city that they had beaten the Phillies.

But… it broke.

No, I don’t mean it broke and didn’t go off or was quieter than normal or anything like that. This train horn was absolutely blaring into the night and couldn’t be turned off. While it lasted for around 3 minutes, anyone who was woken up by it had to think it felt like 3 hours.

Take a look here:

I grew up in a house near a lot of railroad tracks and will tell you first hand that a train horn, no matter how many times you hear it, will rip you out of the deepest of slumbers and have your heart racing. Imagining thousands of Atlanta residents shooting straight up in their beds, wondering what the heck is going on, is nearly enough to make up for my Phillies losing this series to the lowly Braves.

There’s still lots of time left this year and we’ll get them back (if we can figure out what to do with Alec Bohm, Brandon March, and Johan Rojas) but at least their fans had to get their eardrums blown out at 1 in the morning yesterday as punishment for beating everyone’s favorite team…

Hopefully this turns the city of Atlanta against the Braves. It could be the tipping point that should have rallied the city behind their squad but instead causes the fans to despise them.

Yeah, even my wishful thinking brain knows that’ll never happen and I’m just trying to come up with ways to say that everything is going to be okay even though the Braves are going to get Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. back sooner rather than later, both of which will compete for Cy Young and MVP respectively, and if we can’t beat the team that came into this series with a 1-8 record and without their best players, than what are we even doing here?

Lots of baseball left to play and my Phils are sitting at 8-4, but man it’s a bit hard to be optimistic in a season that’s hands down World Series or bust.
