President Donald Trump Goes Off On Comically Bad Painting Of Him In The Colorado State Capitol: “Would Much Prefer Not Having A Picture”

Looks kinda like Bobby from King of the Hill

We all know that President Donald Trump pays a lot of attention to his image. In fact, he even sold t-shirts with his mugshot on them after his supporters began rallying behind the photo of his steely gaze.

Love him or hate him, Trump knows how to take an iconic photo – like the one of him after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania last July when he raised his fist with blood pouring from his ear. It was even reported that Trump was bragging about the photo while he was in the hospital getting checked out:

“Wow, that’s iconic. That’s the most American picture I’ve ever seen.”

But unfortunately, the president isn’t a fan of one particular portrait of himself.

The Colorado state capitol features paintings of all of the former presidents, including one of Trump that was unveiled in 2019. The problem is…well, it doesn’t exactly look like Trump.

The painting was done by Colorado Springs artist Sarah Boardman, who told the Denver Post at the time that she wanted the presidents to look apolitical in their official paintings:

“In today’s environment it’s all very upfront, but in another five, 10, 15 years he will be another president on the wall.”

But unfortunately, the president isn’t a fan.

Although the painting has been hanging in Colorado since his last term, Trump took to social media last night to address the comically bad portrait, blasting the artist who painted it and accusing her of making him look bad on purpose, while also throwing in a jab at Colorado governor Jared Polis for his immigration policy because why not:

“Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before. The artist also did President Obama, and he looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst. She must have lost her talent as she got older.

In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one, but many people from Colorado have called and written to complain. In fact, they are actually angry about it! I am speaking on their behalf to the Radical Left Governor, Jared Polis, who is extremely weak on Crime, in particular with respect to Tren de Aragua, which practically took over Aurora (Don’t worry, we saved it!), to take it down. Jared should be ashamed of himself!”

I like to imagine that the people calling to complain about it is really just Trump calling over and over in different voices, because that would be hilarious and also on brand for the president.

Well a spokesman for Polis released a statement after Trump’s criticism of the painting, and it doesn’t sound like he has any plans to take it down:

“Gov. Polis was surprised to learn the President of the United States is an aficionado of our Colorado State Capitol and its artwork. The State Capitol was completed in 1901, and features Rose Onyx and White Yule Marble mined in Colorado, and includes portraits of former Presidents and former governors. We appreciate the President and everyone’s interest in our capitol building and are always looking for any opportunity to improve our visitor experience.”

You can’t please everybody I guess…
