Just doesn’t quite hit the same as the original…
Riley Green managed to get the ladies all hot and bothered with his music video for his steamy new single “Worst Way.”
Released last year on his Way Out Here EP, the sexy song was a solo write from Riley that he says was inspired by Eric Church’s “Like A Wrecking Ball.”
“I wrote a song years ago and it was called ‘When She Comes Home Tonight’ and it’s that type of sexy love song thing, which I don’t tend to do a lot, but I wrote that song because I was covering ‘Like a Wrecking Ball’ by Eric Church…
When I wrote ‘Worst Way’ that was kind of in that vein, and I had a vision of songs that give me that type of feeling over the years.
‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’ John Mayer, that vibe, something about that was so cool to make it country and make it my own. I would’ve never thought that song would be as big as it has been, but it’s had a whole moment.”
And one look at the lyrics just shows why it’s driving people crazy:
“Baby, that don’t mean that I
Don’t love to go wine and dine you
That ain’t on the menu tonight
‘Cause I think I need to remind you
That your skin on my skin
Feels just like heaven to me
You look like an angel tonight
But you might wanna slip off those wings”
Easy frontrunner for horniest single of 2025, and it’s only February.
Of course Riley only heated things up even more when he dropped his steamy music video, which had people (and by that I mean the ladies) going crazy in the comments and over on TikTok:
@meriaustinoxner Riley Green. The man that you are. @Riley Green #rileygreen #worstway #musicvideo #cowboy #fyp
And meanwhile, the rest of us dudes who DON’T look like Riley Green are stuck trying to figure out how to compete with that.
@c00p98 Should I do this? #rileygreen #beard #country #funnyvideo #blowup #hat #men #trending #fyp #roadto10k
Yeah, it’s like I told Riley last year, he sings a song like that and girls are throwing their bras at him but if I sang it I would get a restraining order slapped on me. It ain’t fair, man.
But anyway, if Riley’s song has you all hot and bothered, I think I found the cure, something that’ll cool you down real quick.
Lan Law, the country music duo made up of brothers Lane and Curtis Lawson, posted their own cover of the song, probably hoping to capitalize on some of that sultry attention that Riley is getting for the song. But…well, for some reason it just doesn’t hit quite the same coming from them.
@lanlawmusic Heard this one was the new talk on TikTok. Here’s our cover of Worst Way by @Riley Green! Love this song! #fyp #countrymusic #videoedit #rileygreen #viralvideo #coversong
The comments are the best part of that video:
“What key is this? “Yes.””
“I keep waiting for Ashton Kutcher to show up. Why hasn’t Ashton Kutcher showed up?!?!”
“You’d be a good band if you got new singers”
“I’m gonna lie, this is fire”
If you’re not familiar with Lan Law, we did our best to explain the whole phenomenon (if that’s what you want to call it) recently. But basically, they’re a duo who released a country song called “Country to the Bone” that was so horrifically bad that it began taking off on social media, not because people were enjoying it but…well, because it was so bad.
The attention to the song has landed the duo on the Bobby Bones Show, in videos from national personalities on ESPN, and sold-out shows (in tiny venues, but hey, still sold out).
And to be clear, this is a case where people aren’t laughing WITH them. I don’t think Lan Law realizes that their success is due to people who were originally sharing the video as a joke and pointing out how bad it is. But somehow, they’ve managed to parlay that joke (whether they’re in on it or not) into some minor success.
It’s wild out there. And of course there are always going to be people behind the scenes in the music industry who see a group like Lan Law have some viral success and are willing to parade them around, make a few bucks off of them, even if they know the music isn’t good.
But hey, whatever works. Strike while the iron is hot I guess. Because just like their cover of “Worst Way,” I have a feeling Lan Law is going to cool things off pretty quick…
