Crazy to think that there are animals of this size and stature just living their lives out in the wild.
For those people that live in “moose country” that regularly see the massive beasts, I’m sure it’s not that big of a deal to set your eyes upon a moose. But for the the rest of us, this video of a pair of bull moose standing by the road in Alaska (and nearly as tall as some of the trees in the background) is astounding.
Moose are the largest of all deer in the deer family, and their height and weight might surprise you. Males are typically bigger than females, though both genders are sizable. On average, bull moose usually stand at 6 feet tall at their shoulders, and can even weigh up to 1,400 pounds. Cows are a bit less in both departments.
Something that I can’t get over while we’re on the topic… people actually hunt these things (they’re some of the most sought after big game animals on the planet), and I can’t imagine trying to track down something of this size that could actually turn around and kill you with one swing of the antlers.
I say it a lot when writing about moose… I don’t think people understand just how big they are. This video does a great job of showing off what appears to be two Alaskan Yukon moose (a subspecies of moose), which just so happen to the largest of all the moose species. They can actually grow to over 1,600 pounds, and it looks like both of these bulls would weigh in around that number.
And that’s not the only thing that’s unique about this video. As the caption for the post points out, males are rarely ever seen together. Fully grown bulls are typically solitary creatures, so seeing the two standing this close together – and appearing not to be in the middle of a fight of any kind – is truly special:

I can’t get over how those animals are basically dwarfing the cars that are either parked or driving on by. They were definitely statuesque (you can see the one in the back slightly moving before the person taking the video passes the parked car), and I’d guess that would have to do with the vehicles that were close by.
Some on social media that came across the video simply can’t believe that this video is real and unedited, but that’s just what Mother Nature does to you sometimes. It’s not AI… it’s just a pair of bull moose standing by the road. And it looks like the video has done a lot in the “let people know how big moose are” department:
“Made that CRV look like it’s a 1:16 scale model car.”
“I’ll never get over how huge they are.”
“I didn’t realize that they are such GIANT, mythical looking beasts.”
