The conspiracy theory is taking off.

Earlier this week, a Canadian country radio station went viral after their morning show host, Docc Andrews, shared a conspiracy theory that Zach Top‘s father is the ’90s icon, Alan Jackson.

Top definitely has ’90s country running through his blood as he revives that classic sound with hits like “I Never Lie” and “Sound Like The Radio.” While it’s not uncommon for Zach Top to be compared to the greats of the ’90s, such as the “Chattahoochee” singer or Keith Whitley, this is the first time someone has implied that ZT could be related to Alan Jackson.

The radio host laid out his theory; honestly, I’ve heard crazier conspiracy theories.

“You guys, Zach Top was born September 6th, 1997, in Sunnyside, Washington, USA. If you go back nine months from his birth date to the winter of 1996. In November of 1996, Alan Jackson played at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington!

Have you seen Zach Top’s face? His mustache? His sound? Zach Top is Alan Jackson’s son. Prove me wrong.”

Conspiracy Theory?

While I saw this radio clip and thought it made some good points, I wasn’t convinced this conspiracy theory could be true. Although their sound is very similar and they have some common characteristics, having a good mustache does not mean they share genes (or jeans, if you want to look at that outward comparison, too).

However, it appears that some country music fans are taking this theory and running with it, as Zach Top’s Wikipedia page has been updated to state that he is Alan Jackson’s offspring. In the first sentences of his bio page, someone has updated it, noting that Top was raised on Jackson’s ranch in Washington.

“Zach Top was born on September 26, 1997, and grew up on his father Alan Jackson’s ranch in Sunnyside, Washington. He got his musical start performing as part of a bluegrass band with his siblings called Top String.”

While it’s not false that Zach Top got his start in a bluegrass band and was raised on a ranch in Sunnyside, Washington, the Alan Jackson being his father portion of this statement has not been confirmed… well, because it’s not true.

Who knows? Maybe Top’s lyric, “Well, the day I was born, the doctor couldn’t believe/ I came out cryin’ Chattahoochee,” is him giving a nod to his “father.”

Zach Top Joins Alan Jackson On Tour

Zach Top is gearing up to join Alan Jackson on tour. He was added to the bill for the four stops of Jackson’s Last Call: One More for the Road Tour. Top has leaned into jokes created on social media in the past, so I’m interested to see if this conspiracy theory gains enough traction for these two to address it while touring together.

Top is set to join Jackson for five scheduled shows in 2025 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, in Orlando at Florida’s Kia Center, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, and in Milwaukee at Wisconsin’s Fiserv Forum.

Seeing Zach Top and Alan Jackson in one night is what ’90s country dreams are made of.
