Kacey Musgraves’s Disastrous Trip To Ireland Included A Bike Wreck & Violent Illness: “It Was Coming Out Both Ends”

Kacey Musgraves’ dream trip to Ireland quickly turned into a nightmare.

The country star just wrapped up the international leg of her Deeper Well World Tour, which got kicked off in Dublin, Ireland. And in Musgraves’ mind, she thought it would be great to get a head start in Ireland, as she explained in her interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers:

“Ahead of the tour, I was like, ‘I want to go have this kind of Eat, Pray, Love adventure.’ I’ve never traveled to a foreign country alone, so I was like, ‘I’m gonna go ahead of the tour, I’ll just spend a week in Ireland. We kicked off the tour in Dublin, so I said, ‘I want to go explore the Aran Islands and just have this romantic adventure by my single self.'”

So that’s what the “Butterflies” singer did.

Musgraves continued by saying she booked her ticket and stay to go to Ireland all by herself before her tour officially got going. On paper, it was a great opportunity for growth and a wonderful chance to explore the Aran Islands. But in reality, things weren’t all sunshine and rainbows, as she told Seth Meyers:

“So I step foot on the island. There are no cars there. You have to rent an electric bike. Within 15 minutes of stepping foot on this island, I eat complete sh*t. I have this catastrophic bike wreck. My knee is totally messed up.

I’m stupid, it was me. It was my fault… I was trying to multitask and get this beautiful video while I was on a bike. Embarrassingly enough, there is proof of my stupidity.”

Make sure to check out the link below, because the late night program actually shows the video of Musgraves – as she said in her own words –  “eating complete sh*t.” The country star hoped that something good would come from the bike wreck, like having a “meet cute” with a guy from Ireland.

Instead, the guy that helped her was also from America, and this was apparently what he said after she took a hard fall off her electric bicycle:

“Nothing like a fall to make you feel alive, right?”

How helpful.

And if you thought that was the low point of Musgraves’ Ireland adventure, you’d be wrong. Really wrong, actually. The bike wreck probably seemed like a pleasant experience compared to what Kacey went through not too long afterwards. She made the mistake of trusting a roadside food stand, and here’s how that went:

“I continue on my journey. I find this roadside fish and chips stand. I’m like, ‘This seems like a great idea.’ I don’t know what happened, but within 24 hours later, I was violently ill. I was puking on the… I had to make the driver pull over. I was like… it was…I’m sorry. It was (coming out) both ends. It was crazy.”

Absolutely brutal. You don’t wish an “attic and basement sickness” on your worst enemy. Musgraves came around eventually, but to top off the run of bad luck, most of her bandmates also got hit with stomach bugs when the tour got started. Maybe it wasn’t food poisoning after all?

Musgraves and her team just couldn’t catch a break, and as she said in the interview, it might as well have been called the “Deeply Unwell” tour.
