Betrayed by their idol.
Swifties took a victory lap after the Kansas City Chiefs season opener, not because of the game but because Taylor Swift didn’t sit with Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, during the game.
If you missed it, the whole stupid saga started back when Brittany liked a post from former President Donald Trump on Instagram. Swifties weren’t happy with Mahomes and began demanding the pop superstar, and girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, dump her friend Brittany over her support of Trump.
Brittany seemed to be wholly unbothered by the outrage from Swifties, and even began liking pro-Trump comments on her own Instagram posts. And Trump even thanked Brittany for her support:

Obviously most of Swift’s fans are hoping that she’ll endorse Kamala Harris, and it seems that they can’t even stand the thought of their hero being friends with a Trump supporter.
So when Thursday night’s game rolled around, Swifties quickly noticed that Brittany and Taylor weren’t seated in the same box and began praising their pop star idol for not being seen with a Trump supporter:
Brittany Mahomes is facing a pretty big decision. She can’t support Trump and remain friends with Taylor Swift. She’s going to have to choose. Swift isn’t going to tolerate it.

Of course there was no indication that politics was the reason that the two didn’t sit together. A simpler explanation would have been that both Mahomes and Kelce have their own box for their families. And Brittany was also there with her young daughters, and is currently pregnant, so she’s not going to be partying like she was last season.
And after today, I think we can safely assume that was the case.
Taylor and Travis attended the US Open (with Kelce looking like a spokesman for Ricola cough drops), and seated beside them were – you guessed it – Patrick and Brittany Mahomes.
A picture began circulating of the two woman hugging it out during the tennis championship, and Swift’s fans are taking it about as well as you would expect from a group of people who worship a pop star:

Of course this shouldn’t need to be said, but you can be friends with somebody even if you disagree with their politics. But I guess this is all just a sign of the times we’re living in – and a sign of just how insane Taylor Swift’s fans really are.
