Cody Johnson Will Have You In Tears With Heartfelt New Music Video For “Dirt Cheap”

I’m not crying… okay, actually, I am.

Today, Cody Johnson released a touching new music video for his current single “Dirt Cheap,” which was written by Josh Phillips and included on Cody’s 2023 ninth studio album Leather.

It’s a beautiful song that finds CoJo reflecting on what’s important to him and how he values memories and simple things over material wealth and possessions, and in the video, we see an old man who has raised a family on a farm that developers are (aggressively) looking to buy and turn into some sort of neighborhood or something.

The lyrics paint the scene beautifully, as the narrator, CoJo, recalls all of the irreplaceable memories that have happened on that land:

“‘Cause I got a little girl that used to swing right there
I still see her pink bow in her brown hair
She’s in the big city, but she still calls home
What’s she gonna do if she comes back, and we’re gone?

And over there, under that wide oak tree
Beneath the cross is where my best buddy’s buried
Lasted 13 huntin’ season runnin’ strong
Keep your money ’cause a man can’t leave his dog
And over there is where I got down on one knee
You can’t buy that kind of dirt cheap”

It’s a pretty much universally-relatable concept, and the sentiment just cuts straight to the heart, especially when you see it acted out and the way they told the story in such a powerful way. Simply put, the farmer can’t (and won’t) sell because:

“Everything that is important to me is here.”

Like I said, I cried a little…

And as it goes with many other Cody Johnson songs, this song is a tearjerker that comes straight from the heart, and is also doing really well over at country radio as it just broke the Top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart this week.

It marks his 4th career Top 10 entry on this specific chart (one of two labels use to officially track their songs performance, along with the Mediabase chart):

The video itself is so well-done and beautifully filmed, and I think it just might be his best one yet. Definitely do yourself a favor and check it out, but be warned, it might bring a tear (or many) to your eye:
