Maybe there’s a Chili’s near MSG he can watch the game from.
Tonight is game 5 of the NBA Finals, with the San Antonio Spurs hoping to avoid elimination and force a game 6, while the New York Knicks are hoping to take home the trophy and win their first NBA championship since 1973.
There are plenty of celebrities in attendance for what could be the last NBA game of the season, including Sydney Sweeney, Timothée Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Patrick Ewing and even (former) Prince Harry.
Well according to his Instagram story, NASCAR driver Carson Hocevar was apparently also planning to be at the game tonight.
Now, I’m going to preface this by saying the whole thing could be (probably is) an elaborate troll by Hocevar. But here’s how it went down, according to his social media story.
The Cup Series is at Pocono Raceway in Pocono, Pennsylvania this weekend, just a two hour drive from Madison Square Garden in New York City, so after qualifying the driver of the #77 car hopped in his personal car and hit the road for the Big Apple.

The only problem, though, is that game 5 is in San Antonio at the Frost Bank Center, not at Madison Square Garden.
Well Hocevar claims to have made it all the way to New York City before realizing his mistake – which is honestly kind of hard to believe. Did nobody see his Instagram story and call him to tell him that he was headed in the wrong direction? Did he not tell anybody about his plans beforehand, or is everybody in NASCAR just so focused on their own sport that nobody caught the problem with his plan?

Well after making it to MSG – which is hosting a show by the band 5 Seconds of Summer tonight and most certainly not the NBA Finals – Hocevar apparently realized his mistake, and was forced to turn right back around and make the two hour drive back to Pocono:

But the mistake also left him with 3 tickets to the game in San Antonio that he was forced to try to get rid of at the last minute.

Now, like I said, it would be more than a little surprising for him to make it all the way to Madison Square Garden before realizing his mistake. And Hocevar’s a prankster, so there’s a pretty good chance that this whole thing is just an elaborate troll and he’s sitting in his bus in Pocono laughing at the reactions to his posts – including some by the NASCAR media who fell for it:
But if he really did drive all the way to New York without realizing that the game was in San Antonio…that’s a tough break. Should have just found a Chili’s along the way to watch the game.
Meanwhile back at Pocono, Hocevar qualified 26th for the race tomorrow, despite getting sideways and tapping the wall during his qualifying run.
If he really did miss out on the Finals, at least he’ll get a good night’s rest before the race tomorrow, which was moved up two hours to start at 1:00 PM eastern due to rain in the forecast.
But if it is, as I suspect, an elaborate troll…well played, sir.
