Animals helping other animals will always warm your heart. There is something tender about an animal’s intuition that makes people stop and go, “Aww.”
A TikTok account has been going viral for their “seeing eye donkey,” Petey. The one-year-old donkey has taken on the role of the eyes for the family’s blind horse, Luna. And the family has taken to social media to share the kind acts the donkey does daily, and some will choke you up.
The humans behind Petey’s account shared their morning routine on a rainy morning last month. Even with the weather being less than ideal, Petey was making noise, noting that it was time for the animals to go outside and enjoy the grass.
The owners opened all of the stall doors so the animals could walk out to the pasture, and while Petey was eager to get outside, he had to stop by his friend Luna’s stall.
“Every morning, Petey guides the blind horse, Luna, out of the barn.”
The donkey makes his way into Luna’s stall, making small noises as he enters so that he does not startle the large animals. Petey then nips at Luna’s blanket, telling the blind horse that it’s time to go outside. Once the horse starts to make its way out of the stall, Petey is there guiding the horses’ sides out of the barn and into the field, making sure that she doesn’t run into anything.
“Petey will stick by her side throughout the day.”
It is beyond remarkable that an animal is able to understand that one of his pasture mates can’t see.
If that doesn’t warm your heart, I’m unsure what will. It is so sweet seeing one animal care so deeply for another. Luna is a lucky horse to have a companion like Petey by her side.
