“He Didn’t Know Her Last Name” – Waylon Jennings Recalls His Daughter Pranking A Guy She Dated Who Was An Aspiring Songwriter

This poor, poor boy…

I really can’t imagine a more terrifying situation when it comes to meeting the father of the girl you’re dating, especially when that man is Waylon Jennings.

One of his daughter’s decided to mess with her boyfriend by not telling him that her dad was the country icon we all know and love as Hoss, but not only that, the guy was also a struggling singer and musician so I’m sure he would’ve appreciated a warning.

In a vintage interview with TNN, Waylon told the story of his “mean” daughter and how she initiated their first meeting… and it’s pretty great:

“I have a daughter, and my daughter is awful mean… I’ll tell you what she did. This guy didn’t know who she was, she didn’t tell him her last name. They had gone out once before, and that night, she said come with me, I’m going over to some friends’ houses.

This old boy was a songwriter and a struggling singer, and she brought him in through the door and she walked right up to me and said, ‘This is my father, Waylon Jennings.'”

And that in and of itself is enough to have the guy SWEATING.

Waylon seems like a nice man, but when you consider this guy was dating his daughter and he had a certain outlaw reputation, I think most guy’s in that situation would be scared shitless (and rightfully so).

But not only did he figure out he was dating Waylon’s daughter as a complete surprise, but on either side Waylon him at that initial meeting was Muhammad Ali AND Johnny Cash… what did this guy do to deserve all that?

Honestly, it’s pretty incredible, and I’m sure a story he still tells to this day:

“And on one side of me was Muhammad Ali, and on the other side was Johnny Cash. Now you’ve seen the donkey’s eyes from ‘Hee Haw’? That old boys eyes just kinda spun around.

I said, ‘It’s a hard life, ain’t it hoss?’ I said I wouldn’t want go in with of my daughters on a bet.'”

CLASSIC.

What I would do to hear it from his daughter’s perspective and also the poor boy’s (who I know is a grown man now) thoughts on the crazy situation.

Watch Waylon tell the story himself here, it’s the best thing I’ve seen in a long, long time and he seemed to think it was pretty funny himself. Sounds like the apple really didn’t fall that far from the tree when it comes to the Jennings’ always having a little trick up their sleeve:
