We all know Ashley McBryde for her honky tonk lyrics like “Made For This” or “Brenda Put Your Bra On,” but hearing McBryde cover classic country is angelic. The woman is a powerhouse vocalist, but hearing her spin on the airy vocals of a Patsy Cline song has me longing for a studio cut of this cover.
On Monday night, country music celebrated the legacy of Patsy Cline with Walkin’ After Midnight: An All-Star Tribute To Patsy Cline at the Ryman Auditorium, with performers like Wynonna, Tanya Tucker, Kellie Pickler and many more, highlighting some of Cline’s greatest hits.
Aside from Pickler’s emotional return to the stage since the passing of her husband, Ashley McBryde’s time on the stage was a standout from the evening as well.
With Patsy Cline paving the way for women in country music, it makes sense that sensational performances were laid down by women in the genre. Jill Biden said it best during the opening remarks:
“(Cline) changed the music industry so profoundly it’s hard to imagine what our world looked like before.”
I think Patsy Cline would agree that Ashley McBryde is a true voice of country music from her performance during the tribute, covering her hit “Leavin’ On Your Mind.” McBryde is so in tune with each word that she sings during the performance that you are captivated by the first note.

I mean, good Lord, as if we didn’t love Ashley McBryde enough, she then had to give us this. With this performance, she blew the roof off the Ryman.

Just for fun, McBryde shared a snippet of her covering this song last year on her TikTok. The acoustic jam of the track once again highlights her beautiful vocals as she sings the 1962 hit.
