Hear Chris Stapleton’s Insanely Good Demo Version Of The Josh Turner Hit, “Another Try”

That’s a country song right there.

We’ve shared this one a few years back, but it’s just too good not bring back into the conversation on this quiet Thursday afternoon.

Originally recorded by Josh Turner and Trisha Yearwood (what a power duo, right?) back on 2007, “Another Try” has to be one of the premiere country heartbreakers of the past 20 years. It was released as the second single from his Everything Is Fine album, topped out at 15 on the Billboard Country charts, as well as nominated for Vocal Event of the Year at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music awards.

And guess who wrote it? Chris Stapleton, along with Jeremy Spillman.

Chris’ demo version is a bit different, and so is Chris’ approach compared to his usual vocal style. Most of the time, Chris likes to let that big voice rip, but here he’s much more reserved, letting the emotions of the song do the heavy lifting.

Just a country music masterpiece.

And the original studio version, recorded by Josh and Trisha:

How “Your Man” Change Their Careers

Hard to believe it’s been nearly 20 years since this one came out.

Released back in 2005, “Your Man” was the lead single from Josh Turner’s 2006 album of the same name. That deep baritone voice really brings the song together, but the song itself was actually written by another great voice, arguably the best voice in country music… Chris Stapleton.

Yep, a decade before Chris took the country music world by storm, he was penning songs for Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and more.

Josh and his wife recreated the music video in celebration of the 15-year anniversary, but Josh also sat down with Chris Stapleton to discuss how the song came together, what it has meant for their careers, and the impact it has made.

“Your Man” would go on to become Chris’ first number one single, as well as Josh’s first number one, and according to Chris, it even “bought him a house.”

And the rest is history.
