You never know who you’ll see on a random Tuesday night in Nashville…

Honestly it’s one of the coolest parts of living in Music City. A couple years ago I saw Alan Jackson perform a surprise show at his bar, and one time I just happened to be at a bar when Doug Stone hopped up on stage with the band to perform “I’d Be Better Off (In a Pine Box).” You just have to be at the right place at the right time.

And last night the right place was Tootsie’s.

Justin Moore and Randy Houser made a surprise appearance at the iconic Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Broadway in downtown Nashville, where they took the stage and paid tribute to Toby Keith with their cover of his classic hit “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”

The two also teased an announcement coming soon, so it sounds like Justin and Randy have something else in the works too. Which honestly sounds great, because I’ve argued before that they’re both two of the most underrated artists in country music.

They may not have the awards that others have, but Justin and Randy both have catalogs that I would put up against pretty much anybody else in mainstream country music.

Justin consistently just keeps cranking out hits, and is quietly releasing some of the best music of his career over the past few years. And Randy has one of the best voices in country music, yet never seems to get recognized for it.

So the idea of these two teaming up together sounds like the perfect match for whatever they’ve got planned. Just two solid stars who consistently make great country music joining forces for…well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they’ve got in store.

But in the meantime, check out their surprise performance of a Toby Keith classic from Tootsie’s last night.
