The opening guitar riff of this song gets you every time.

Bluegrass is having its moment in the limelight, bringing country music and noncountry music fans together to enjoy the hypnotizing picking style of the genre. From the Deadheads to the Johnny Cash lovers, bluegrass is a genre everyone can bond over.

Outside of the mainstream artists like Billy Strings, East Nash Grass, Molly Tuttle, and The Infamous Stringdusters, artists like Marcus King are getting in on the action, highlighting the guitar-picking style passed down from generation to generation.

Marcus King is known for his soulful, bluesy guitar playing style, but hearing him play bluegrass tickles my ears in the best way possible. Shouting out Molly Tuttle for securing the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album, he sat down at a home studio to cover one of the songs off the album that won, City Of Gold.

“Molly Tuttle, congrats on bringing home the Grammy for best bluegrass album! Well deserved!”

King puts his flare on “Down Home Dispensary,” and from the opening chords, you know it will be good. King quickly slides his finger along his acoustic frets before jumping into the quick-paced lyrics.

“There’s a big change a-coming to the southland you know
We got a modern way of living but there’s room to grow
We used to grow tobacco by the bushel or bail But now there’s something better and it sure does sell
Hey mister senator I’m asking you please
Put up a down home dispensary in Tennessee…”

While King only recorded a snippet of the track, I am itching to hear a full version. What King laid down, though, is beyond solid and gained Tuttle’s stamp of approval.

“Thank you, Marcus!! You crushed this.”
