Two female country music powerhouses.
Wynonna Judd and Ashley McBryde might seem like an odd duo, but I think it makes so much sense.
From their booming vocals to staying true to their roots, they both have shaken up the country music scene for female artists in such a positive way. Judd and McBryde became friends shortly after McBryde broke through the scene, and since then, they have been there for each other on and off the stage.
Ashley McBryde recently sat down with CMA to speak about how much their friendship means to her.
“Going from having been a fan my entire life, meeting Wy a few times, touring with Wy, and us becoming such good friends; if you had told me that when I was a teenager, I would have told you, ‘You’re out of your mind.’
And each night on tour, standing next to her on stage, the feeling of ‘OH MY GOD, THAT’S WYNONNA’ never left my brain and my body. I never got used to it.
What I love about our friendships is whether I’ve just texted her or she has just texted me to check in, it seems to be spot on with what each other needed at that time. I don’t know where she gets that sixth sense from…and I’ve said before I’m not sure she’s entirely human. She might be angelic.”
In April of 2023, Wynonna shared after a performance with McBryde that she was confident she would carry the torch, continuing to pave the way for women in the country.
Hearing how both of these women speak about each other highlights their abundant mutual respect.
I personally also think it’s so heartwarming to hear that Wynonna is always there for her colleagues. After the loss of her mother, Naomi, Judd has spoken about how she sometimes feels as though she is on auto-pilot but somehow still shows up for those she cares about, even in her darkest hour.
I hope to see these grace the stage together more in 2024; their performances are always 12/10.
