FINALLY.

Kacey Musgraves just announced on Instagram that the first single from her forthcoming studio album that we’re calling KM5 (for now) will be out everywhere this Thursday:

“New song. Thursday.”

She shared a few photos from the studio in the post, as well as lyrics from the song which fans have speculated is called “Deeper Well” based on some of the words:

After presenting the Country Album of the Year award to Lainey Wilson at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, Kacey and her team aired a commercial teasing the new album, which of course sent fans (myself included) into a frenzy of speculation.

And while we’ll have to wait and see in terms of what the album will sound like, I’m hoping it’s more along the lines of Same Trailer Different Park and Pageant Material. In terms of the visuals, it’s seemingly going to be some sort of a departure from her 2021 Star-Crossed album.

In a recent article in Variety, it was speculated that next album may mark a shift back towards Kacey’s country roots in the same vein as her aforementioned major-label debut album, which I couldn’t be more excited about:

“Musgraves affiliated herself with Interscope as well as Universal Music Nashville on ‘Star-Crossed,’ but if you think being hooked up with a pop label means she’s moving toward strictly a pop play, we’ve heard the forthcoming album is something that is still very much for her longtime country base.

Waiting to find out what she’s bringing us with this one definitely counts as a slow burn.”

I guess we’ll get the first taste of it this Thursday.

Here’s the teaser commercial you haven’t seen it yet, which features part of the new song in the background:
