Ah, Jason Aldean

Happy Country Music Awards day, y’all. While the awards are being held later this evening, Nashville has been in CMA mode all week. With events being held with all the artists being honored and more, Music City has been buzzing with events leading up to the Bridgestone Arena awards show.

Last night, during the BBR/BMG CMA Awards Pre Party, label mates Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Jason Aldean, and Dustin Lynch sat up on stage to sing a few songs and talk a little bit about their time with the label and coming up in the industry.

Last night, while on stage, Jason Aldean admitted that he had no idea who his current label mate Jelly Roll was when he first met him.

“The first time I met Jelly… he came to one of my shows, and I walked in, and this guy came up, and I was like, ‘Who in the f*ck is this guy?'”

While there is no date on this story of when this first interaction was, Jelly Roll was well known on the country music scene prior to being signed to BBR Music Group. Jason goes on to finish the story of their first interaction:

“I was like, I don’t know who this guy is, but I want him on my side during a bar fight. Ended up being we’re label mates.”

You can hear the crowd giggling while Aldean is telling the story. I know I’m not always the best at recognizing people in public, but Jelly Roll is hard to miss. With his face tattoos, warm personality, and large stature, I think he stands out among the crowd.

While Jason Aldean has been a hot topic of country music since the release of his “Try That In A Small Town” music video, it seems he is in the headlines more these days for the controversy he is stirring up instead of for his music. Even with the release of his latest Highway Desperado album, headlines filled up with his anti-vaccination stance, how he wouldn’t live in Nashville, and would it be a Jason Aldean article without talking about his feud with Marren Morris.

Jelly Roll is the leading male nominee, up for Male Artist of the Year, New Artist, Single of the Year, Video of the Year, and Event of the Year, while Jason Aldean goes unnominated. Aldean, who is much more a darling of the ACM Awards, has only won a few CMAs, and hasn’t been nominated since 2018.

As always, we’ll be live tweeting the event to be sure to tune in for some laughs, head scratches, and (hopefully) a few celebrations as we take in the spectacle that is the Country Music Awards, so be sure to follow along on X (@whiskeyriff) for all of the fun.
