I’m sure you’re familiar with the story by now.

These days Eric Church is one of the biggest stars in country music, selling out arenas, stadiums, and, on his current Outsiders Revival Tour, amphitheaters all across the country.

But back in 2006, Church was opening for Rascal Flatts on their Me and My Gang Tour.

Now right off the bat, I can’t think of any two acts that are less of a fit for the same tour. Church with his rock edge singing about drinking and smoking weed opening for the slicked back, bedazzled jean, mom-country pop sounds of Rascal Flatts.

That was a marriage that was destined to fail from the start. And that’s exactly what happened.

Church was ultimately kicked off the tour, and replaced by another up-and-coming artist named Taylor Swift.

Seems like that one worked out well for everybody.

Well during a recent interview with Esquire, Church recounted that experience of getting kicked off the tour:

“Horrible match. Horrible combination.

We didn’t do things exactly like we were supposed to. We played too long, we were a little loud, we were a little rowdy…lot of rules, lot of rules.

And I broke ’em. All of ’em. And got fired from the tour at Madison Square Garden.”

Well, apparently the interview caught the attention of Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox. And he doesn’t exactly agree with Eric’s side of how things went down.

In a comment on the video, LeVox responded:

And he also stitched Esquire’s TikTok with his own response, seemingly mocking Church for saying that he played too loud:

“It wasn’t that you were too loud or too rowdy. You just played too long.”

LeVox also responded to a comment on his video that said “You let Chief play as long as he likes” by laughing at Church’s nickname:

Seems like even after all these years, there’s no love lost between Church and Rascal Flatts.
