Colin Cowherd Compares Vikings QB Kirk Cousins To Nickelback: “No One Will Publicly Acknowledge They Love Em'”

The sports commentary world is always full of comparisons.

Some personalities say that Tom Brady is the “Michael Jordan of Football,” or others say that the modern day NBA would be weak when compared to the hard-nosed basketball of the 1970s and 80s.

What Colin Cowherd said counts as a sports comparison, but it’s unlike any that I’ve ever heard. The longtime FOX Sports commentator said on his show today that NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins is the equivalent of the rock band Nickelback.

Honestly, it’s a pretty weird thing to say, though his reasoning for the comparison isn’t that far fetched. One is a band that puts out music that’s usually the butt of the joke, even though they have a loyal following.

The other is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, statistically, but many believe he doesn’t have the “edge” to win big games.

Cowherd broke it down on his show, saying:

“The Vikings are 0 and 3. Kirk Cousins is on pace to throw for 6,000 yards and 51 touchdowns.

Cousins isn’t toxic, (he’s) never hurt, always available, always classy, always productive…”

Colin then got into other quarterbacks that have been or used to be similar to Kirk’s skill level, and how even though they might have been “average,” there were certain people that always defended them.

That’s when he really brings in the Chad Kroeger led band:

“Kirk Cousins is Nickelback. Nobody will publicly acknowledge they love em’. You never hear anybody go… you never hear a guy go ‘I love Nickelback’ publicly.

They sell 50 million records, they sell out their shows, and everybody knows the words to their songs.”

Cowherd is basically saying that no one is coming out and saying that they love Kirk Cousins, or would be willing to defend him, just like one would assume Nickelback fans go about things.

Cowherd finishes his argument by saying:

“Find somebody that publicly defends him and goes to bat for him. Isn’t that strange?

Cousins is going to break NFL records…find someone that loves him.”

I’d argue that Netflix’s Quarterback show made a lot of people love Kirk Cousins, but whatever…

The full clip of his strange-yet-somehow-cohesive argument can be viewed below

And in somewhat of an upset, there were some people in the replies of the post that were willing to defend Cousins and Nickelback at the same time.

There were also some there in the comments just to laugh:
