Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce’s  “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” has officially been certified Platinum by the RIAA, meaning it has moved over one million units since its release in 2022:

It hit the #1 spot on the country charts last May, and was included on Carly’s 2021 29: Written In Stone album.

With that, “Never Wanted” also became just the second solo female duet to reach the #1 in a 30-year time span, making it Carly’s third career #1 and Ashley’s first #1 on country radio when it topped the Mediabase chart (one of two charts labels use to officially track their songs performance).

The pair also took home the Grammy win for Best Country Duo/Group Performance last year, besting Luke Combs and Miranda Lambert, Reba and Dolly, and more.

Written by Carly, Ashley and Shane McAnally, the girls go back and forth on the ballad, realizing they’re both being cheated on by the same guy and admitting that they never thought something like that would happen to them.

“Never Wanted” is a good old fashioned cheatin’ song in every sense, and I love seeing the continued success they’ve had with it because it was one of my favorite, and easily one of the most country, singles at mainstream radio released in 2022.

They’re actually both gearing up to hit the road and put out some new music now too, with Ashley kicking off her The Devil I Know tour this fall, and Carly on her Country Music Made Me Do It tour in October.
