Earlier this week, the pop music world and NBA world were sent into a frenzy after the news dropped that Britney Spears had been slapped by Victor Wembanyama’s security guard in Las Vegas.

For those who don’t know about Wembanyama, he’s a French basketball star who stands at a whopping 7-foot-4, and was taken number one overall in the NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

Spears released a statement to social media:

“Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night.

It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. I am aware of the player’s statement where he mentions I ‘grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped his shoulder.

His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses to fall off my face.

Physical violence is happening too much in this world. Often behind closed doors, I stand with all the victims and my heart goes out to all of you!!!”

And after that, video footage obtained by TMZ was released of the incident, and it actually supports Spears’ claims (besides the part where she fell down, and may have actually slapped herself after her arm was swatted away).

You can see her running up behind Wembanayama, and then his security guard delivers a slap.

She then yells in a British accent (which is weird because she’s completely American):

“That’s America for you. F*ck you all!”

But now that the video’s been released, Britney has taken to social media once again to discuss the situation, writing in a lengthy statement while claiming that she’s still a huge fan of Wembanyama.

“I’ve been working in the industry for years and have been with some of the most famous people in the world … NSYNC at one point were like The Beatles … girls would throw themselves at them everywhere we went … not one time in my life has a security guard ever hit another person !!!

I’m not sharing this to be a victim … I SIMPLY GET IT HONESTLY … my reaction was priceless … BAD ??? YES … I’ve had documentaries done about me and none of which I approved … I have felt helpless in most situations and my experience in Vegas and my reaction was a cry out on all levels … I will say it !!!

No, I don’t feel like I have been treated as an equal person in this country … of course when I watched the video myself … the people who actually swarmed around me when they heard me get hit made me feel like I mattered !!!

I wasn’t aware of that at the time … all people could hear was me saying fuck you all … which was WAY BETTER THAN HITTING HIM BACK !!! Either way I’m still a huge fan of the NBA player … it’s not his fault his security hit me … shit happens !!! I hope you’re all having a wonderful Friday !!!”

Poor Britney. Just can’t seem to catch a break.
