What is wrong with people?

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen more and more artists hit by objects thrown by fans from the crowd, notably pop singer Bebe Rexha, who a couple weeks ago took a nasty hit to the face by a cell phone, resulting in a black eye and reportedly three stitches above her eye.

And at a show at Outlaw Field at the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise, Idaho last night, someone in the crowd threw an object at Kelsea Ballerini, nailing her in the face as you can see her grab her face and turn to the side when it hits her.

It’s hard to tell what the object was, and some fans speculated it was a bracelet, though it looked a little heavier duty than that to me based on her reaction.

Kelsea has a quick conversation with one of her band members before exiting the stage, and you can see how it all went down in the video below:

@weweregolden THI IS NOT OKAY! STOP THROWING THINGS @ ARTISTS ON STAGE, wtf is wrong with y’all?! 🎥 @Kelsea Central @Kelsea Ballerini #kelseaballerini #heartfirsttour #stopthrowingthingsonstage ♬ original sound – kelsea ballerini fans 💛

She returned to perform a few minutes later after changing outfits, appearing to be fine and addressing the situation pretty calmly by saying she just wanted all of her fans to feel safe, adding that they should not “throw things” at her while she’s performing.

I don’t know who in their right mind thinks that’s a good idea, no matter what their intention or how small and seemingly harmless the object is… I mean, would you want someone to throw something at you like that?

For the love of everything, can we please stop throwing things at artists on stage…

Here’s her full reaction:

“Can we just talk about what happened? All I care about is keeping everyone safe. So if you ever don’t feel safe, please let someone around you know.

There’s security everywhere tonight. If anyone’s pushing too much or you just have that gut feeling or anything, just always flag it. Don’t throw things. You know?

I always want shows of mine, every show for every artist, but I’m in control of this one. I just want it to be a safe place for everyone, we have little kids here. Can you help me do that tonight please?”
