Man, I hope my dog lives this long.

It’s a sad reality that our time with our dogs is usually only 10 or 15 years at the most. But for one Portuguese man, he’s had his best friend for 31 years now – which is every dog owner’s dream.

Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which is a breed of Portuguese dog trained to guard livestock, is certified by the Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest dog. And he’s not just the world’s oldest dog alive: He’s the oldest dog ever recorded.

According to Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, the pup is still in good health, though he’s had some difficulty walking and his eyesight has gotten worse as he’s gotten older (I can relate to that).

To celebrate the special dog’s birthday, Costa planned a birthday party for Bobi – complete with a dance troupe to entertain the crowd. He said that he expected over 100 people to attend, which is pretty crazy for a dog’s birthday party.

But Bobi’s not just any ordinary dog.

Says Costa:

“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world.”

That’s a very good boy. Although at this point, at 31 years old, would Bobi be considered a man now?
