Jamie Foxx is a jack of all trades. Actor, comedian, singer, songwriter, producer, and believe it or not, a BIG George Strait guy.
Unfortunately, Jamie has been in the hospital for the past three weeks, suffering from some kind of unknown medical condition, and a source close to his family says he’s going to need all the prayers he can get.
Back in April, his daughter shared on Instagram:
“We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”
So to send out some love to Jamie Foxx today, we’re taking it back to 2009 and a little George Strait.
Back in 2009, CBS hosted a tribute concert for the King of Country Music, featuring performances from Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and more, but it was Jamie’s soulful performance of “You Look So Good In Love” that left people in awe.
Before kicking off the performance, Jamie shared a hilarious, yet heartwarming intro about growing up in Texas as a young, black, George Strait fan.
“Black fans too, George… you got black fans too. I know this audience doesn’t represent it but they’re out there.
My name is Jamie Foxx, I’m from a good old town called Terrell, Texas… and I’m gonna tell you my personal story, George.
You came to Terrell, Texas, one time when I was 14 years old, and I told everybody, ‘I don’t care what side of the tracks I gotta go over, I’m going on the other side of the tracks to see George Strait.’
I took a big risk that night.”
He went on to say that while he never actually got to go to the show when he was a kid, he would meet George years later and George remembered coming to town that night. Ahead of his performance, he said that George Strait’s love songs, or rather the “sexiness” of his music, is universal:
“No matter what color you are, the sexiness of George Strait’s music… make some noise for the sexiness of George Strait’s music. And I’m going through some things with my girl right now so I had to take a page from you…”
He went straight into “You Look So Good In Love,” and the audience was downright stunned.
Get well soon, Jamie.
