Chalk this one up as a learning experience.
At some point, everyone comes face to face with the reality of nature and these kids in Florida got a first hand show of exactly what that can look like.
It seems like the family was fishing in a backyard pond when one of the boys grabbed a baby duckling and took it to the house to show his mom.
Now, should kids be grabbing ducklings? No, but hey, we’ve all been there and caught some creature that in hindsight we realize we shouldn’t have.
The mom does a good job of telling the kid to put it back, saying that its mother will miss it, and although he seems a bit disappointed, the boy does listen and returns it to the yard, where it started waddling over to its family that you can see in the background.
If the story ended there it would have been just a funny moment for the family and they’d have a good video to look back on during family Christmases.
But it didn’t end there…
As the duckling was hurrying to reunite with its family, a hawk saw an opportunity for a snack and took action, swooping down from a perch in one of the trees and snatching the duckling before it even know what happened.
The mom has understandably horrified, but it’s pretty funny how fast the kid went from “I want to keep the duck forever” to “DID YOU SEE THAT THAT WAS SO COOL”.
Ahh, the joys of parenthood and having to explain that one to the kids.
What a crazy moment.
