Jake Gyllenhaal Set To Reprise Patrick Swayze’s Role In Amazon Remake Of ‘Road House,’ And Fans On Twitter Aren’t Loving It

I’ll just go ahead and say it, there will never be another Patrick Swayze.

The beloved actor passed away in 2009 at the age of 57 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Of course, he’s loved to this day for his roles in iconic movies like Ghost, Dirty Dancing, The Outsiders, Point Break, and the one we’re talking about today, Road House.

It was just announced that a remake of the 1989 film is set to start filming next month and released as a Prime Video exclusive, and will feature Jake Gyllenhaal reprising Swayze’s role as Dalton, the former UFC fighter-turned-bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys.

The original 1989 Road House film starred the late, great aforementioned Patrick Swayze, along with Sam Elliott as a co-star.

And actually, Swayze and Gyllenhaal have co-starred in a movie before, when they both had main roles in Donnie Darko back in 2001, but nonetheless, people on twitter were not having it with this new announcement.

Director Doug Liman will use a script by The Nice Guys writer Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry for the Road House remake, and says he will be putting his own spin on the cult-favorite:

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved ‘Road House’ legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

Yeah, good luck breaking that one to the people on the internet…

But like, this could still work…

The film is set to start shooting later this month in the Dominican Republic, and other cast members include Billy Magnussen, Suicide Squad actress Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Lukas Gage are set to star.

Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery will also be featured cast members.

Honestly, though, how can they really ever recreate this?

Impossible…
