More than four months after the death of Hank Williams Jr.’s wife Mary Jane, her cause of death has been revealed.
According to PEOPLE, the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner has confirmed that Mary Jane passed away at 58 years old due to complications from an elective plastic surgery procedure.
It was initially reported that she may have passed away due to a blood clot as a complication of surgery, however it has now been confirmed that she suffered an accidental lung puncture during a liposuction and breast implant removal surgery which resulted in a collapsed lung.
The autopsy lists the official cause of death as “pneumothorax due to perforated parietal pleura during liposuction with autologous fat reinjection procedure.”
Mary Jane reportedly traveled Jupiter, Florida, to have the liposuction as well as the breast implant removal procedure performed by Bafitis Plastic Surgery.
She was released from the plastic surgery facility into a recovery facility where she appeared to have no signs of any complications until she suddenly became unresponsive.
She was rushed to the ER where she died.
Her death has been ruled an accident.
Hank Jr. met Mary Jane in 1985 and the couple married in 1990. Hank also lost his daughter Katie in a car accident in 2020.
Shortly after her death, Bocephus took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the matter, to thank fans for the support, and announce that he will continue to tour despite this awful tragedy.
“Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers during this time.
The family has encouraged me to perform this weekend. Not only is it healing, but I do not want to disappoint my fans who have purchased tickets.”

Sam Williams Shares Emotional Statement After His Mother’s Death
After the tragic news broke that Hank Williams Jr.’s wife, Mary Jane Thomas, had passed away in Jupiter, Florida, their son Sam released a powerful statement about his late mother.
It read:
“My dear Mama Mary Jane was a beautiful soul who forever affected everyone who knew her. She had a smile and presence that lit up every room and she never met a stranger she didn’t befriend.
Her spirit was gentle and giving. She could take down a ten-point buck and fix dinner for her grandchildren at the same time! Now she gets to radiate from above with my sister Katherine Diana right by her side.
She grew up competing in baton and cheerleading and was one of Hawaiian Tropic’s top models. My father fell in love with the Daytona Beach beauty the minute he set eyes on her in the early ’80s. They went on to live the most powerful love story of travel and hunting and raising a family.
She is survived by my father, her two parents Ramona and Bill, her brother Andy, her sister Angela, myself and her three grandchildren: Beau Weston, Tennyson Hiram and Audrey Jane. Rest in peace Mama, I will always be the son of Mary Jane.”
Mary Jane Thomas was Williams’ third wife, and they share a daughter, Katherine, and a son, Sam. Hank Jr. has three children from previous marriages as well.
Katherine was tragically killed in a car accident in June 2020, at the age of 27.
