Did Yellowstone save TV?

Okay, okay, that’s a bit of a stretch, but considering the fact that TV ratings have been trending downward for the past couple of years, the hit TV show played a massive role in keeping ratings afloat as the TV season has officially come to an end for this past year.

According to Variety, football yet again ruled the primetime slots. However, for non-sports related airings, Yellowstone was once again the biggest entertainment show on television.

With the show’s new appearance on basic cable on the Paramount Network, the show saw an explosion in ratings, leading to it being the most popular show on TV.

Of course, Season Four dropped in November of last year rather than its normal summertime release, putting it up against TV series powerhouses like This Is Us and NCIS.

Ultimately, with Yellowstone’s later release, basic cable beat out broadcast for the first time since The Walking Dead, as the show was the most watched in both total viewers and adults between 18-49.

Not to mention, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 and The Mayor of Kingstown both made the top 100 list for TV shows this year.

Yellowstone Season 5 is officially set to premiere on Paramount Network this coming fall, on November 13th. And it was also recently announced that the upcoming Four Sixes Ranch spinoff series, 6666, will also air on Paramount Network (rather than the streaming service Paramount+), so we could likely see that show do some damage in the ratings as well.

A lot to be excited about in the Taylor Sheridan universe… stay tuned:
