Brent Cobb Honors John Anderson With Cover Of “Wild & Blue” From Forthcoming Tribute Album

Brent Cobb is tipping his cap to the great John Anderson.

He dropped his cover of “Wild & Blue” today that’s part of the forthcoming tribute album, Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Andersonthat’s slated to drop August 5th.

Of course, John was a mainstay in country music back in the ’80s and ’90s, with his incredibly recognizable and distinct voice and hits like “Straight Tequila Night,” “Seminole Wind,” “Swingin’,” “Black Sheep,” plus so many more.

Produced by Dan Auerbach and David Ferguson, the tribute album will feature a number of country stars, like Brothers Osborne, Tyler Childers, Eric Church, Brent Cobb, Luke Combs, Sierra Ferrell, Sierra Hull, Jamey Johnson, Ashley McBryde, Del McCoury, John Prine, Nathaniel Rateliff, Sturgill Simpson, and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings.

“Wild and Blue” was written by John Sherrill, and was the lead single and title track to John’s 1982 album. It ultimately became his 11th country hit and the first of five number ones on the country chart.

Brent said this song in particular has been a favorite of his for a while, and he even put out a music video to go along with it:

“My version of John Anderson’s ‘Wild and Blue’ is out today, along with a music video. It’s one of my favorite songs of his, got me through a few tough times.”

Of course, this rendition has that signature Brent Cobb sound with a little bit of Georgia twang, and I think it’s safe to say he did John proud with his cover:
