49 Winchester Debut New Honky Tonk Heartbreaker “Damn Darlin'”

49 Winchester’s music is called Appalachian Soul for a reason.

“Damn Darlin,’” the third single off their highly anticipated upcoming album Fortune Favors the Bold, just hit all streaming platforms today.

And you better do yourself a favor and go give it a listen. One of the hottest bands in country music, they remain undefeated with this one, reaching a 34-0 start in their unbroken streak of releasing absolute bangers.

In true 49 Winchester fashion, “Damn Darlin’” is a honky tonkin’ heartbreaker that combines clever lyricism with soulful vocals, and it further validates the band’s genre-bending perfection that we have come to know as “Appalachian soul.”

Penned by frontman Issac Gibson, the tune puts an original twist on the classic country tear-in-my-beer story we all love, with a breakup that takes place at Nashville’s legendary Exit/In.

“And then that tear that Hank talked about, fell right on in
Out of your eye and over the rim
Of that glass that just became your only true friend
Hearts break harder, at the old Exit/In…”

For those of you who are not familiar with the venue, the Exit/In is a 50+ year old music venue and bar that has hosted the likes of Johnny Cash, Billy Joel, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Buffet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, Willie Nelson, and many more of the best artists and bands to ever play music.

49 is playing there on Thursday 4/21 with Cole Chaney, making this a very timely release.

But listen to the song yourself, because there’s no way my words can justify how great it is.

Here is the band’s second ever official music video, filmed at the historic Nashville venue, itself.

If you think the song sounds familiar, you may be right. They have been playing it at live shows for quite a while. And a few months ago, a YouTube video was released of a stripped-down version of “Damn Darlin’” as part of the FloydFest Bus Stop Recording Sessions, and ever since, the anticipation has been building for its official release.

But even though that video was not released very long ago, it seems like 49 Winchester has gained some much deserved recognition since then, which has only added to the anticipation.

The band has been rapidly gaining momentum on the road leading up to Fortune Favors the Bold, headlining tons of new venues, getting spots in some of the biggest festivals out there like SXSW’s Luck Reunion, and securing a spot on Whiskey Myers’ upcoming “Tornillo” tour. And as a result, the fans and accolades have been growing daily.

If “Damn Darlin’” and the other singles are any indication, Fortune Favors the Bold should be one of the best albums of 2022, so don’t be surprised if it skyrockets 49 Winchester into the national country music spotlight they deserve. But trust me, you’re missing out if you have not already gotten to know their music.

Set to be released on May 13th, Fortune Favors the Bold will be the fourth album in a steady progression of the Castlewood, Virginia band improving on their already solid foundation.

Fortune Favors the Bold can not come soon enough, but until it does, listen to their new singles like “Damn Darlin’” and go catch a live show. Chances are they’re playing somewhere near you, and you’ll get to hear some of these before the official release.
