We all know and love Kelly Reilly as the talented actress who portrays the badass, no fucks given, Dutton family name protector… the great Beth Dutton on the Paramount Network hit series Yellowstone.
It takes some serious acting abilities to portray a woman like that over the span of four seasons, and Beth’s character keeps getting better and better… or more and more relentless, however you wanna put it.
How she didn’t her own SAG Awards nomination is beyond me, but that’s an argument for another time…
But I’ll be the first to say, when I first started watching Yellowstone, Reilly looked eerily familiar.
I knew I had seen her play in a show or movie before, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was…
And then it hit me.
Kelly Reilly played in the 2014 film Heaven Is For Real, playing the wife of Todd Burpo (Greg Kinnear), a local businessman, pastor, and volunteer firefighter in Imperial, Nebraska.
For those who want a run down (if you don’t wanna spoiler, just skip this part), Sonja (Reilly) and Todd’s son Colton passed away briefly during emergency surgery, and says he saw Heaven, meeting Jesus, angels, and family members while there.
However, the surgeon revives him, and he tells the story to his parents, and everybody in town.
She weighed in on the role of playing Sonja in a 2014 interview with Religious Family Movie:
“From playing her (Sonja), I feel like she doesn’t need to have all the answers (about Colton’s experience in Heaven).
I think women handle things slightly differently, I think we are more instinctive, we’re more emotional, we’re more aware that things can be a mystery.”
Talk about playing two COMPLETELY opposite roles.
Kelly Reilly went from playing a sweet pastor’s wife, to the badass, cussin’ and fightin’ Beth Dutton on Yellowstone.
I guess that’s an ode to Reilly’s versatility as an actor.
Reilly also starred in True Detective Season 2, Flight, Sherlock Homes, and more.
