Riley Green Delivers Killer Acoustic Cover Of Tim McGraw’s Hit, “The Cowboy In Me”

Come ON with it.

Riley Green is back posting country covers on Instagram and I’m thrilled to see one last video like this before we close out 2021.

Over the last year, he’s shared a series of simple acoustic covers of songs, like Merle Haggard’s “The Way I Am”, that I just can’t get enough of (in addition to debuting some new songs of his own occasionally).

Like I’ve said before, I think Riley has the perfect voice to cover some of the old classics, but even when he’s done more recent songs like Chris Stapleton’s “Whiskey And You,” there’s just something about his voice with an acoustic guitar that simply… works.

And today, he’s coming through with an awesome cover of Tim McGraw’s 2001 #1 hit “Cowboy In Me,” which recently got a Yellowstone makeover.

The new version has a more stripped-down, simple production than the original, and appeared in a recent episode of the show. Of course, Tim co-stars with his real life wife, Faith Hill, in the new Yellowstone prequel series, 1883.

Written by Jeffrey Steele, Al Anderson and Craig Wiseman, the song was originally released in 2001 as the third single from Tim’s Set This Circus Down album and eventually peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Something tells me Riley is a big Yellowstone guy… maybe they need to feature one of his songs on an episode sometime in the future. He about looks like he could be Kayce Dutton’s long lost twin with the longer hair he’s been rocking lately and the cowboy hat he likes to wear on stage.

I really hope Riley will deliver plenty more of these cool acoustic Instagram videos next year… they’re just too damn good. He posted this one with a simple caption that sums it up perfectly:

“Classic.”

And of course, the awesome new Yellowstone version of Tim’s song:
