It goes without saying, but bull riding isn’t for the faint of heart.

I mean, these guys are tough as nails.

Just ask veteran professional bull rider J.B. Mauney, a two time PBR World Champion, and two PBR World Finals winner.

With the motto, “If you are going to be the best, you’ve got to ride the best,” JB is one a bad mf’er. However, an accident occurred last Friday night that had everybody more than a bit nervous for the famed bull rider.

Mauney was competing in his first National Finals Rodeo this past Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center, when he was bucked off a bull that resulted in some serious facial lacerations, and ultimately knocked him unconscious.

The bull, named Johnny Thunder, was wrangled up in a few minutes, and fortunately, Mauney was able to get back up and walk off under his own power.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, one of the bullfighters that helped get him to safety, Dusty Tuckness, said:

“The biggest thing that caused that wreck was when J.B. came down and hit that bull with his head more or less that knocked him out for a minute.

It was kind of one of them crazy bull ridin’ deals. You can’t protect that. But (J.B.) is as tough as nails, and I expect big things from him tonight.”

JB was cleared to ride the very next day, and actually tied for the top score in Round 1 the day before. He split the prize money with Ky Hamilton.

“Got a little western last night! Thanks to three of the best for saving my ass!”
