I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, The Marfa Tapes is easily one of the best albums of 2021 for me.
And, the trio consisting of Miranda Lambert, Jon Randall and Jack Ingram is taking it to Austin City Limits for the first episode of season 47 that premieres this Saturday on October 2nd.
They previously released the live performance video of one of my favorite songs on the record, “In His Arms”. Today, they’re putting out another one in the lead-up to the episode this weekend of the spunky, sassy song “Geraldene”.
Miranda previews the song by addressing the elephant in the room:
“Well, we gotta talk about her, don’t we?”
To which Jack and Jon agree and add that, if she’s worth writing about, she’s worth talking about.
And, seeing as they’re all veterans of the road and have probably seen it all out on tour, Miranda informs the crowd that, while Geraldene wasn’t necessarily written with a specific person in mind, there are plenty of “Geraldene’s” in every city:
“Jon always says if you’ve ever been on the road, you’ve met Geraldene. Cuz we wrote a song about this made up girl, but is she made up? I mean, not really…”
To which the ever-wise Jack Ingram adds:
“A little bit of truth in everything.”
And, as a girl, I think it’s pretty safe to say we all know a Geraldene personally, too:
“Yeah. Anyway, I don’t even have to explain it, cuz once you hear it you’ll know what I’m talkin’ about.
I don’t like Geraldene!”

This season of ACL will also feature other country and bluegrass artists in Billy Strings, Charley Crockett and Brandy Clark.
