It looks like the Morgan Wallen comeback is official.

Morgan and his Big Loud team will be sending “Sand In My Boots” to country radio as his next single, his first official single since his temporary ban from radio following the racial slur incident in February of this year.

The single will impact on Monday, August 23rd.

Morgan has appeared at several shows and events in recent months, and even sang a new song on stage, in the wake of his national TV interview on GMA interview with Michael Strahan, so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that his team is finally deciding to green light a new single.

Though the song has been charting for a while now, both he and his team have stayed pretty quiet as to when they would officially send it to country radio. It’s currently sitting in the top 50 on the Mediabase charts and is in the top 40 on the Billboard charts:

According to HITS Daily Double, 20 Mediabase-tracked stations are already playing the song, and that number will likely grow exponentially next week.

In July, when the song first started charting, one unnamed a major-market programmer told Billboard they felt like it was time for him to return to radio and that “Sand” would likely go #1 a soon as it became an official single:

“I think it would be a #1, and that he’d be welcomed back. He made a mistake and he’s apologized a number of times. He belongs back on the chart.”

The song was an immediate fan-favorite when he released his record-breaking Dangerous: The Double Album at the beginning of the year, and with radio already playing it, it seems like a pretty obvious choice for his next single.

Though, if he’s gonna release “Sand In My Boots,” he should actually release the stripped-down, acoustic version of the song.
