Cody Johnson Releases Two More Tracks From Upcoming Double Album, ‘Human’

The country calendar is giving us all a lot to be excited about for the second half of this year, but I have to say, the upcoming double album from Cody Johnson might have most of my attention.

Titled Human, it’s set for release in October, and as CoJo promised on our Whiskey Riff Raff podcast, he’s releasing two songs each month, one from Side A and one from Side B, until October.

Last month, we got to hear, “Til You Can’t” and “Longer Than She Did,” and today, we’re back with two more.

The first, titled “Stronger,” is an ode to the tough women that many of us men rely on to make it through this thing called life.

The chorus:

“She’s like a lighthouse standing in the path of a mad hurricane
And her kind laughs at the lightning and dances around in the rain
And when I’m at the end of my rope and I don’t know if I can hold on
She’s stronger.”

And let’s be honest, it doesn’t get much tougher than former bull rider and rodeo star Cody Johnson, so if he can admit it, you can too.

The second, “God Bless The Boy (Cori’s Song),” is a tenderhearted ballad to his youngest daughter Cori, but perhaps, more importantly, a song for the “boy she decides to love.”

“God bless the boy that melts the way I do
When she smiles at him the first time
He’ll be done, oh, he’ll be through
Give him patiеnce and kindness
And a heart that’s full of hеr
And the sense to know just what she’s worth
‘Cause ain’t nobody ever gonna be good enough
So God bless the boy she decides to love.”

And as a guy who’s about to welcome a baby girl in a couple months, this one hits home for me.

October people… mark your calendars.
