We got a new boot scootin’ tune coming at us today courtesy of Jesse Daniel.
If you’re not familiar with Jesse, he’s a guy that Shooter Jennings has said is going to be “the next one to blow up,” after correctly predicting the rises of guys like Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers.
Jesse hails from California who calls himself “a nut for the Bakersfield sound” – the twangy subgenre of country music made popular by guys like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard and more recently heard in the music of heavyweights like Dwight Yoakam and Jon Pardi.
Well his latest single which dropped today, “Think I’ll Stay,” fits perfectly in that style – a barn-burner featuring plenty of the piano and electric guitar that the classic Bakersfield sound is known for, but one that also throws back to the honky tonk sounds of 90’s country.
And in addition to the new single, Jesse also announced a new album coming July 30th.
The new 12-song album is called Beyond These Walls and features members of both George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band and Willie Nelson’s band.
If you missed Jesse’s last album, Rollin’ On, it’s one that’s worth going back to (over and over again) for it’s gritty, hard-driving sound that once again calls back to the music of Merle Haggard and Dwight Yoakam.
I’ve always been a sucker for the Bakersfield sound and that type of country music, so I’m pretty excited to see what Jesse Daniels has in store on this latest record.
And from the sounds of the new single, I’m pretty sure I’m going to dig it.
